Ingredients

  • For two servings, the following ingredients are required:
  • Four medium eggs
  • Two tablespoons of milk
  • Four slices of bread (or Brioche)
  • Two tablespoons of butter

Method

Start by lightly beating the egg with the milk in a shallow bowl. According to Liana, this should be large enough to dunk the bread in before cooking.

At this point, any seasonings should also be added to the bowl, preferably salt and pepper.

Almost anything would work for extra flavour here, including dried parsley, chilli flakes, or paprika.

Once the eggs are beaten, dip each slice of bread in the thick mixture one at a time until soaked through.

Heat a large non-stick frying pan over medium heat and add one tablespoon of butter.

Once melted, add two slices of bread at a time and fry for one minute on either side before removing them.

Liana said: "Eggy bread and French toast are the same food, they are both made from soaking bread in beaten egg and then fried. However, eggy bread tends to be savoury and French toast is typically sweet."

The final product can be enjoyed on its own, or topped with bacon, melted cheese, grilled tomatoes, or even served as part of a full English Breakfast.
